That Donald Trump is a racist, anti-immigrant blowhard is clear. What is less clear is how mainstream politicians of both parties have created the conditions for Trump’s right-wing demagoguery.
Both parties continue to embrace policies that enrich the same Wall Street and corporate elites that wrecked the economy in 2007-2008. Both parties continue to spend trillions on the “war on terror,” which only fuels more terror. Trump is taking the resulting anger and anxiety and is channeling it in an overtly hateful, racist direction.
Luckily, millions are rejecting and protesting Trump’s hateful message. As Bernie Sanders’ success shows, millions also embrace socialism, and are eager to build a more socially and economically just society.
Donald Trump may be tanking in the polls against Clinton. But defeating “Trumpism” does not begin or end with this election. Join us for a discussion of what it will take to create a socialist movement that organizes for radical, progressive change while also beating back Trump and the Right’s scapegoating.
