Healthcare for all: August reading group
August 14, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Hey everyone! We’re back in August to talk about healthcare. The disaster known as Trumpcare has been declared dead-on-arrival. It’s a victory that will keep millions of people from being dropped by insurance companies.
But while the draconian Republican plans would have been worse, the system we have now is terrible.
So let’s talk about alternatives. What is Medicare for All? What distinguishes a single payer system from a public option? Which one offers the best way forward? How do we begin the long-term fight for quality, accessible healthcare for all?
When: Monday, August 14th at 7:00PM
Where: Brooklyn Free School, 372 Clinton Ave. near the G/C Clinton-Washington stops
We’ll discuss these 3 readings:
The Case Against the Public Option by Adam Gaffney
After Trumpcare by Adam Gaffney
A Plan to Win Universal Healthcare by Tim Faust
If you want to keep reading, here are a couple suggested articles:
Democrats Against Single Payer by Branko Marcetic
Planned Parenthood Sparks Controversy With Statement Against Single-Payer Healthcare by Kylie Cheung
Please bring $3-4 to help cover the costs of the space, if you are able. If you need childcare to make the reading group, also please let me know by Thursday, August 10th. Afterward we’ll get drinks down the street at Hot Bird.
See you there!
