Since July 18th, Israel has continued to attack the city of Gaza, destroying refugee centers, schools, and hospitals. Over 1,500 Palestinian civilians have been murdered while thousands of other civilians have been displaced. And yet the United States government continues to support the Israeli occupation and assault on Gaza. Congress recently voted to provide an additional $225 million in direct aid to the Israeli military. Since the Israeli state was created in 1948, the US has given over 130 billion dollars in direct aid to Israel.
Activists in the United States, who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, must challenge the US involvement in the Israel apartheid. This task requires our side to ask why it is that the U.S. government (both Democrats and Republicans) uncritically support Israel, how Israel functions as a “watch dog” for the United States in the Middle East, and the connections between the occupation and imperialism. Join us this Wednesday to discuss these topics, deepen our knowledge on the conflict, and discuss how we can support Palestinian liberation here in the United States.
