We have a lot to do.
They say
“Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead.” (Clinton)
“We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country.” (Obama)
“President-Elect Trump promised to rebuild our economy for working people, and I offer to put aside our differences and work with him on that task.” (Elizabeth Warren)
We say
“It is our duty to fight. It is our duty to win. We must love and protect one another. We have nothing to lose but our chains.” (Assata Shakur)
We need to study, educate and train ourselves. How did Trump win? How do we fight the Right? How do we build a Left? What were the successes and failures of previous movements?
We need to organize: fundraising for Standing Rock legal defense and winterizing camp, building the anti-Trump protests in this city, and preparing ourselves to counter every instance of bigotry on our campus–if a bigot so much as even squeaks, we’ll be there.
And we need to win.
For that, we need politics. Politics is study (theory and history) and practice (activism) combined, in an organization of dedicated, principled socialists, with the ability to debate and propose both a vision for a better world, and the next step we need to take right here, right now to get there.
We’re socialists, and we’re recruiting. Join us.
Local Branches
The ISO has meetings around the city every week and they are open to all who want to learn more, discuss and work with us or consider joining. Next week, branches will be continuing the discussion of the aftermath of Trump’s election and how we build an alternative in this period.
