For most of us, the past several weeks have been a confusing combination of shock, horror, fear, but also anger and the desire for action. Donald J. Trump will now head the largest economy and military in the modern world. Immediate resistance to his agenda is urgently necessary. But we also desperately need a larger socialist movement as a vehicle to organize a political alternative to our current corrupt, dysfunctional, and profoundly undemocratic and unequal political system. The ISO aims to help build both of these simultaneously.
The Bernie Sanders campaign has re-awakened a much needed interest in socialist politics in the United States. Trump’s victory has underscored for hundreds of thousands why that is needed now more than ever. Since the election, the ISO has received an outpouring of interest in our group. Therefore we are organizing a three-part discussion that will service as an introduction to our political project.
Note: All meetings will take place in Hamilton Hall. We will meet in front of the building and find an empty room from there. The first session will take place TOMORROW. If you can’t make either one of the first sessions, you are still welcome to jump into any of the following sessions. If you have any questions, or can’t make any of the sessions but want to talk with somebody individually, or want to get a copy of Meaning of Marxism for the optional readings, please contact Sean Petty at firstname.lastname@example.org or text/call at 917.573.0708.
