Trump has wasted no time in making good on his racist, anti-immigrant campaign promises. In addition to his Muslim ban and call to build a wall on Mexican border, Trump’s executive orders also ramp up ICE enforcement and threatens sanctions on any city that would limit cooperation with immigration authorities. Moreover, while politicians like DiBlasio promise to stand up for New York’s immigrants, the reality is that our city continues to cooperate with ICE in targeting people for deportation.
Trumps’ orders intended to sow fear and panic, but they are also producing anger and resistance. From the thousands of people that came out to airports across the country to the hundreds who put their bodies on the line to try to block the detention of long time community member Guadalupe Garcia Rayos in Phoenix, Arizona. It is clear that people are looking to move into action to stand up to Trump’s agenda.
Come to this week’s meeting to the Queens branch of International Socialist Organization to discuss the state of the attacks, the movement against them and next steps for building that resistance.
