While the Republican and Democratic parties have failed to pass a bipartisan immigration reform bill, the number of deportations under the Obama administration has reached 2 million (breaking the record for most deported under any US Presidential administration.) Increasing collaboration between local Police and Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) has led to increased deportations.
There have been 400,000 people deported every year nation-wide and 7,000 in New York City alone. Across the country families, activists, and grassroots organizations are looking beyond the proposed immigration reform to understand the politics being played with their lives and to build the movement that fights to keep their families and communities together.
