The brutal attack in Paris this month provoked two diametrically opposed responses. One was a predictable attack on Muslims and Arabs, a call to close borders to refugees supported by more than half of American governors and 47 Democratic Congresspeople, and calls for renewed attacks on civil liberties.
The other response was Parisians returning to cafés and bars to show that they would not retreat into fear, thousands of people standing up to defend refugees fleeing the same horrific violence Paris suffered, and people around the world standing up against yet another round of bombings and wars.
Come to a discussion of the implications of this month’s attacks and how we can build a resistance based on the idea of equality, justice, and solidarity.
