Donald Trump has outraged much of the World with his call to ban Muslims from entering the US. But while his views represent an extreme current of Islamophobia, this racism gains legitimacy by the mainstream politicians and media, who have been whipping up suspicion against Muslims for years to build support for military adventures abroad and greater repression and surveillance at home
All the while, ISIS/ Daesh—itself a product of the last round of imperial mass-murder and misadventure in Iraq, coupled with the billions spent by the US and its allies in destroying the Arab Spring—reaps the rewards of this polarization. These were its aim in perpetrating its terrorism in Paris, as it feeds on, and shadows, both the Assad reign of brutality in Syria, and the growing violence of all the imperial competitors (U.S., European and Russian) in the region.
Among the result are the daily, vicious, racists attacks on Muslims and immigrants here in the U.S. (including Queens), and a hysterical scape-goating of refugees, who are among the worst and most immediate victims of this bloody dance, fleeing from their own experiences of terror.
Please join the Queens Branch of the International Socialist Organization in discussing both the complicated and often-times frightening dynamics at play, and what it will take to build both a principled fight back against racism, war and fear, and a better future for all.”
