The movement against the Keystone XL pipeline has demonstrated some of the radical possibilities of a revitalized environmental movement. Capitalist projects like Keystone bring us closer to the brink of environmental disaster and well-intentioned efforts to reform our exploitative relationship to the world have failed to curb this headlong race towards destruction. It has become clear that a revolutionary approach to solving our ecological crises is necessary. Preserving our world, and our place within it, is going to require overturning the system of capitalism itself.
On Wednesday March 19 the Brooklyn Branch of the ISO will be discussing the case for eco-socialism. Capital’s relentless pursuit of growth and unquenchable thirst for natural resources cannot be stemmed by tinkering with our current system. A world in which we meet the needs of all people without consuming our planet in order to satisfy the needs of an exploitative system is possible. Please come and talk with other New Yorkers about how we can make it happen.
